World War 1 essay

World War 1 was a large war that started 1914 and ended in 1918. The U.S joined the war in 1917. The war is remembered as World War 1.(Or The Great War.) The U.S entered the war because German subs were firing against U.S ships, the Germans sent a telegram to Mexico inviting war against the U.S, and the Americans hated the Germans more then the British.

First, German subs attacked U.S ships (which helped opinion against Germany rose.) causing the U.S to be angry at Germany. The Germans announced they were launching unrestricted submarine warfare in the seas against any ship.

Second, the Germans sent a telegram to Mexico inviting war against the U.S. The Germans sent the telegram because they wanted the U.S to be distracted with a war with Mexico. Their ambassador to Mexico sent a telegram to Mexico, which was intercepted by the British, who showed the telegram to the U.S President. This caused the U.S to declare war against Germany.

Last, the Americans hated the Germans more then the British. The British used propaganda to convince the Americans that the Germans were bad. Early in the war, a ship called Lusitania was sunk by a German sub, killing not only British, but also some Americans, making opinion against Germany rise.

The Americans entered the war because the Americans hated the Germans, U.S ships were attacked by German subs, and the Germans sent a telegram to Mexico that invited the Mexicans to war with U.S. The U.S entry in the war helped the Allies win World War 1.
